A tablet is one of the few gadgets where the “ecosystem” question genuinely decides the answer for most buyers, more than any single spec.
What actually decides it
- Phone match - an iPad pairs far more smoothly with an iPhone (Handoff, AirDrop, iMessage, shared clipboard); a Galaxy Tab does the same with a Samsung phone. Mixing brands works fine, but loses these conveniences.
- App quality - iPadOS still has the deeper library of tablet-optimized apps, especially for drawing, note-taking and video editing. Android tablet apps have improved but remain more hit-or-miss.
- Pen and keyboard - both the Apple Pencil and S Pen are excellent for notes and sketching; check whether your chosen model includes the pen or sells it separately, since that changes the real cost.
- Display & multitasking - Samsung’s higher-end tablets tend to push larger, higher-refresh AMOLED screens and more flexible split-screen multitasking; Apple counters with tighter app polish and longer software support.
Our take: pick the tablet that matches your phone. iPhone owner? Get the iPad - the apps are better and it just works with your other Apple gear. On a Samsung or other Android phone, the Galaxy Tab keeps everything in one place and the big AMOLED screens are lovely for video. Only cross brands if one specific model has a feature you genuinely want.
